Just in case you haven’t had enough ‘wrapped’ content this year, here’s one more! As 2025 comes to a close, we’re looking back at all the amazing things that we got up to this year.

2025 has been a big year for BWiS. We’ve watched the network grow in so many ways, and we’re excited to share a few of our highlights with you in this post.

Highlights from the Network

The main highlight of the year has been all the wonderful opportunities we’ve had to connect directly with you this year. Here are a few of our favourite moments:

  • Kicking off our year with our 3rd Brunch Talks Live session hosted at the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry in Cambridge! We’re so grateful that so many of you braved the slight chill to celebrate International Women’s Day with us. It was an inspirational morning full of great food, great conversations, and great music.

  • We introduced mid-week virtual evening sessions for our members to run alongside our monthly virtual Brunch Talks. If you’re looking for a space to unwind after a long day at work, join us for Off The Clock with BWiS, every last Thursday of the month from 7pm to 8pm. If evenings don’t work for you, you can still join us at our regular virtual Brunch Talks, which take place every 3rd Saturday of the Month from 11am to 12pm.

  • We held our annual Celebrating You event in October, in collaboration with the Academy of Medical Sciences. We had a wonderful evening meeting and connecting with so many of you in person. You can find out more about how the night went in one of our previous blog posts.

If you missed out on our events this year and would like to join us next year, you can subscribe to our events calendar to stay in the loop!

Highlights from the Committee

Behind the scenes, the committee has been working hard on figuring out the best ways to support you all as members of the network and making sure that we’re putting our best foot forward. You might have noticed a few changes already! Here are a few of our highlights:

  • We’ve been doing some more boring things, like updating our website and our promotional materials and strategy, and some much more exciting things, like welcoming some new members to our committee, including a new blog writer, social media coordinator, business and finance manager, administrator, and outreach team.

  • We've also worked really hard to expand our presence this year. You might have seen us around at several events throughout the year, promoting BWiS and doing some networking of our own. This year, we attended Broadening Horizons in Manchester, the Imperial Black Graduate Careers Fair, the Minoritised Life Scientists Future Forum, and even made an appearance at Silverstone at an event with Mission44!

  • The BWiS podcast, hosted by our very own Tulela, reached new heights this year! We’ve had so many amazing guests join us on the podcast this year, such as Olympia Amoo, a senior research nurse who spoke to us about improving Black health outcomes; Simone (X) Braithwaite, an environmental activist organiser who spoke to us about Beauty Justice; and Laila Fadi Dokkali, a Formula 1 simulation engineer who talked to us about Aerospace Engineering in motor sports! You can listen to all our podcast episodes right here on our website or wherever you get your podcasts.

  • We also started a new social media account. You can now find us on Twitter (X), Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and BlueSky! Social media is one of our main forms of communication with you all, and we’ve been doing our best to make sure we meet you where you are. Connect with us on any (or all) of our social media channels, we’d love to hear from you!

We are always looking for new volunteers! If you’re passionate about building community, amplifying voices, and creating space for Black women in the Sciences, and you’d like to join the committee and take a more active role in shaping the Black Women in Science Network, express your interest via this rolling volunteer application form. You can find out more about what our roles and responsibilities look like

We'll be reviewing expressions of interest on a rolling basis, and interviews will take place sporadically throughout the year. Please direct any questions to admin@bwisnetwork.com.

One last thing…

The network doesn’t work without you all, so thank you to everyone who’s joined us this year! Whether you came to events, signed up to become a member, or joined our monthly brunch talks, we’ve loved meeting you, getting to know you, and building a sisterhood with you all.

We hope to see you all again, in whatever capacity, in 2026. In the meantime, we hope you have a happy holiday season and a very happy New Year!
